Be Prepared To Answer This Question

    Nov 25, 2025•Technology

As we are having AI take over more and more tasks that humans used to do, it won't be long before this question is asked of people in interviews in less and less subtle ways: What can you do in this role thats better than AI?

Meaning what is your unique human contribution to this task.

Some roles it will be easy to answer this. For example, I have a human touch (doctoring, massage) that can't be replicated by AI.

Sometimes it will be more subtle - I create and curate concepts and visuals into a coherent brand and visual direction that is emotive and unique.

But sometimes it may be simply this: I can't add anything beyond what AI can do and actually AI can do this better, quicker and more cheaply than me. My unique value is that I know how to use the AI to do it.

That is also fine as it shows you are the person that the organisation needs to implement the technology, direct it, QA it or finesse it.

The point is everyone needs an answer to this - an honest one.

This will also be a question asked of start-ups. What does this model do that uses AI and what can be streamlined further, consolidated or further disrupted by AI. And what will you do when AI gets even smarter? How will you defend your model against smarter and more independent AI? And how will you continue to integrate it in a flexible and adaptive way when it develops (rapidly)?
